报告摘要: The ocean is vital to human survival, supplying natural resources, most of the planet’s oxygen, and supporting economic development through its vast reserves of minerals, oil, and gas. While often perceived as a silent world, the ocean is rich in natural sounds generated by marine life and geological activity. However, human activities—such as sonar use, pollution, shipping, and underwater vehicles—have increasingly disrupted the aquatic ecosystem. In this talk, I will present recent advances in underwater wireless optical communication (UWOC) and the use of distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) over existing subsea optical fiber infrastructure for integrated underwater sensing and communicatior for ocean environment monitoring. I will also discuss the integration of UWOC and DAS-DTS technologies for coral reef and marine ecosystem monitoring, which uncovers acoustic biodiversity and offers a scalable, real-time alternative to traditional hydrophone-based approaches. The future prospects of using UWOC and distributed fiber-optic sensing technologies to build intelligent, sustainable, and integrated ocean monitoring platforms will also be discussed.
