报告摘要:
There have been much research and technological development activities on Photonics and Optical Communication Research in Singapore in recent years. The continuous inflow of private investment breeds confidence in the environment for the industry. The government gives great support for the research activities and the universities and research institutes have established excellent research infrastructure for performing advanced academic research and technology development. We are currently moving the test bed out of lab, into the real world. This would mark a next step into realising wide deployment of optical access network to individuals and businesses.
报告人简介:
Ping Shum received the B. Eng. and PhD degrees in electronic and electrical engineering from of the University of Birmingham, UK, in 1991 and 1995, respectively. In 1996, he joined the Hong Kong University. Since July 1997, he joined the Department of Electronic Engineering, Optoelectronics Research Centre, City University of Hong Kong. In 1999, he joined the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University. He is founding member of IEEE Photonics Society Singapore Chapter. Since 2002, he has been appointed as the Director of Network Technology Research Centre. He received the Singapore National Academy of Science Young Scientist Award in 2002 for his contributions on optical communication technology. Dr. Shum has published more than 400 international journal and conference papers. He was the chair, committee member and international advisor of many international conferences (e.g. ICOCN, OECC, ECOC, COIN, APOC, ICMAT, ICICS, WOCN, ICCCAS, AOE, PIERS, PhotonicsGlobal, ACP). His research interests are concerned with optical communications, nonlinear waveguide modelling, fibre gratings and WDM communication systems.
