报告摘要:
Photonic devices can be faster and more energy efficient than electronics in signal generation and processing, as well as in sensing and imaging applications, but this requires strong nonlinear light-matter interactions. Plasmonic (i.e., metal-based) nanostructures can confine light well beyond the diffraction limit, greatly enhance light intensities and hence the nonlinear interactions at the nanoscale. However, metals have high losses and the physics of the trade-off between these losses and the strong light-matter interaction is not well-understood. In this talk, I will discuss our recent progress on the fundamental limitations to the ultimate nonlinear performance, and alternative approaches to improve the performance, and the attractive merits of plasmonic nanostructures compared with all-dielectric ones.
Dr. Guangyuan Li earned a PhD degree from Peking University, China. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Peking University and at Nanyang Technological University, respectively. He was the PI for several nationally competitive grants in China, including the National Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and won the Outstanding Postdoctoral Fellow of Peking University in 2012. He is now working on nonlinear plasmonics with CUDOS, the University of Sydney. His expertise is mainly in Plasmonics and Metamaterials, especially in waveguides, gratings, sensors, nano-lasers, and nonlinear nanophotonics.
