报告摘要:

Light-matter interactions have been lying in the core of many technological applications. Thorough understanding and controllable manipulation of such interactions are thus of great importance to develop future technologies. The advancement of nanotechnology has provided powerful tools to engineer light-matter interactions on the unprecedented nanoscale. One of such nanostructures is optical nanoantennas that afford strong coupling between propagating electromagnetic fields and localized near fields. The resonances associated with optical nanoantennas lead to enormously enhanced near field beyond the diffraction limit promising for a variety of applications. In this talk, I will describe my work on the fabrication of a number of optical nanoantennas with top-down lithography as well as bottom-up colloidal lithography and will discuss their superior optical properties. Their abilities in engineering novel light-matter interactions are showcased in applications such as active plasmonics, nonlinear optics and surface-enhanced spectroscopy.

报告人简介:

Dr. Kai Chen obtained his B.S. and M.S. from Nankai University and his Ph.D. in physics from Virginia Tech in December, 2009. Afterwards, he spent one year in Dr. Hatice Altug’s lab at Boston University working on the application of metamaterials in surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy. Subsequently, with the support from Humboldt Foundation, he moved to University of Würzburg in Germany and joined Dr. Bert Hecht’ group working on tunable optical nanoantennas. Now he is working in the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Japan in the field of plasmonics. His research interests focus on resonant nanostructures and their applications in sensing and energy harvesting.
