The combination of innovative photonic technology and biomedical science has become the major focus and emerging frontier of the research of the 21st century. The bio-imaging lab of Prof. Meng Cui at Purdue University and the nanophotonics lab of Prof. Xiangping Li at Jinan University are developing enabling photonic tools for better understanding complex biological systems and applying these tools to address key biological questions. The bio-imaging group at Purdue is pioneering at the interface of photonics, computational image processing and biology. The team at Jinan University is working on emerging nanophotonic techniques including plamonics and superresolution. The niche fusion of the strengths of the two groups enables joint efforts to further advance powerful bio-photonic tools and reveal remarkable insights in biological systems.
