报告简介:

The fiber optics has revolutionized the way to communicate and its industrial impacts are still evolving. However, the basic structures of optical fibers for communications have already standardized and conventional optical fibers have become a commodity. In this talk, various attempts to utilize fiber optics as a platform to combine different scientific disciplines providing unique compact efficient tools for emerging sciences.

 

报告人简介:

Prof. Kyunghwan Oh has received his BS in physics from Seoul National University(SNU) in 1986. He studied ferroelectric materials during his MS in SNU 1988. After serving military he moved to Brown University in the USA to further earn MS in engineering in 1991 and Ph.D. in fiber optics 1994. His research has been focused on fiber optics for the past 20 years developing specialty fibers and fiber devices in Yonsei University (2006-present) and Gwangju Institute of Science and Technolgy (1996-2006). He has been also affiliated with key fiber optic research laboratories including Bell labs in the USA, Optoelectronics Research Centre in UK, Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology in Germany, HUST, HIT in China, and The University of Tokyo in Japan. He is a Fellow of the Optical Society of America, an associate editor of PTL, Elsevier Fiber Optic Technology, a member of the international editorial board of Elsevier Optics Communications. He has authored and co-authored more than 200 SCI journal papers, and he authored and edited three books and two book chapters.
