Microwave photonics:
Microwave photonic signal processing has attracted significant interest in diverse areas including communications, radars, sensors, and so on. This is because it offers the prospect of realizing extremely high mutigigahertz sampling frequencies, overcoming inherent electronic bottlenecks for processing wide bandwidth signals. Besides that, it also has the supplementary advantages of tenability, reconfigurability and immunity to electromagnetic interference. The objective of this project is to investigate new photonic signal processing techniques that exploit the gain-bandwidth advantages of photonics to overcome the limitations of conventional electronic processors, including photonics-based arbitrary waveform generators, microwave photonic filters, optically-controlled phased arrays, photonic-assisted instantaneous microwave frequency measurement and so on.
